A tribute to outback QLD
Inspired by a passion for "Backyard Ultra" (BYU) running, we are launching an event in Outback Queensland, aiming to capture the same spirit of endurance and natural inspiration. This race is a tribute to Gilbert Cleland, who was the custodian of the property for 60 years before his passing in August 2024. The event was created to honour his 86 years of dedication to the land, offering runners the chance to experience the unique beauty and tranquility of Outback Queensland while pushing their personal limits.
Course Description
The Gil's Galavant course is a 6.71 km loop with a total elevation gain of approximately 30m. The start and finish line are located in the cattle yards on "Treville Downs." Runners will begin by heading into the back paddock, completing a loop around the dam. This section brings them back near the starting corral, offering a spot for spectators and crew to cheer them on at roughly the halfway point. From there, the course ventures into the front paddock and eventually into Kangaroo Creek, providing some welcome shade and slightly more technical trail running. Runners will then follow the main entrance road towards the old homestead, passing retired machinery before winding into the cattle yards and, finally, the finish line. The course features diverse running surfaces, including grass, sandy loam soil, seasonal creek beds, and gravel.
